Shane Hickey-O'Mara(He/him)
I hold a B.Sc. in Counselling & Psychotherapy from PCI College, Middlesex University. I work integratively with clients, utilising a number of modalities including Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Creative Therapies. Before qualifying, I worked professionally in the Arts for 12 years, primarily in theatre, and I have a particular interest in exploring the use of different artforms to promote connection and insight in the therapy room. I also work in politics, something that has been fuelled by my work as a therapist in recent years. I believe that being a psychotherapist is a deeply political profession and that we have an ethical responsibility to advocate for a better quality of life for our colleagues and clients. I have also worked extensively with hundreds of young people within a youth arts context over the past decade and will commence studying for a Diploma in Integrative Adolescent Psychotherapy in spring 2025.
I am passionate about creating a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space in which the client feels supported to explore their identity. As a therapist I have worked with clients in areas that have included gender and sexuality diversity, neurodivergence, intersectionality, relationship breakdown, trauma, grief and loss.
I am a pre-accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and attend fortnightly professional supervision with an IACP accredited supervisor.
